Three of them were destroyed, and Annabeth lost the last falling into hell. This is partly a test, she wants to see if they really can recreate something that was destroyed!
However, I'm not sure if they'd work? They're magic, it is never implied she has to plug them in or run them off anything, but they're also laptops! Either way she wants them, she may just have to go to the station to use them!
An alternative would be her knife, which she also lost falling into hell.
