So noted on the consequences, it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make if it means character progression and CR building.

In any event this will probably be a months long process as I imagine "specific circumstances" are going to involve a lot of research and effort. During said process it will become obvious that Gil has settled down quite a bit so I think that will help in easing tensions.
