OCTOBER CALENDAR OF EVENTS

Hey, fairybros! For the month of October we'll be mixing things up! As a response to player interest in a certain Halloween Ball, we've got a lot of special tricks up our sleeves, featuring three excellent surprises. But first! This month's event ...

The Lost Moon GENRE: ACTION/STRATEGY/MAGIC | DURATION: 03-13 OCTOBER

SUMMARY On the evening of October 3rd, the moon appears to flicker and fall out of the sky to the south, right over Boglach. This is a source of joy for the Unseelie, who find they have a twofold increase in power and they are ordered to keep the Seelie from putting the moon back in its place. All Seelie characters will find their powers weakened by half, and ordered to head south to save the moon, whom the birds have told the Seelie monarchs has become trapped down under a great rock by the dark creatures and must be freed.

UNSEELIE
The moon's place was weakened by the lack of stars, and the Unseelie High-Queen has decided to take advantage of its fall! She will send a (handwaved) proclamation calling for all Unseelie throughout the Drabwurld to speak the words 'Riddles in the Dark' at nightfall during the time of the event! Doing so will cause them to be transported to the cave where her imps have hidden away the moon, which shall take the form of a giant silver disk. The mission is simply to guard it from the Seelie! This job will be made harder as after it is touched, the moon will change shape, and try to flee both captors and rescuers! It may become a silver hare, dog, crab, bird, doe, moth, cat, bear... you name it! As of October 8th, it will have escaped Unseelie hands entirely, leading them AND the Seelie through a merry chase through the tunnels connected to the cave it had been guarded in!

SEELIE
Meanwhile, back in Caer Glaem and after another handwaved proclamation, the Seelie High-King will issue his own forces into the world to recover the moon, noting that it must be recovered for the High Queen to wake from her ensorcelled sleep! At dawn or dusk, Seelie shardbearers need only say 'Look for the Light' to be transported to the wooded, remote area just outside the cave system where the moon is being kept! They must dive in, discover where the Unseelie are holding the moon, and then return it to Caer Glaem by any means! Individuals can be transported into the territories around each stronghold on any day of the event.

The catch is that no one from either court returns before their quest is over. Regardless of participation and a win/fail recovering the items, all who participate will qualify for an October boon. So stick it out! Armour, weapons and torches (for light) are available to all team members although they will only have an hour to make ready ... because the monarchs won't be asking for their help this time, they'll be demanding it! In either case, the fate of the moon will be decided by 00:01 GMT the morning of October 13th as a result of player plotting! With the battle won or lost, shardbearers may speak 'Hold My Foes' to have their own personal fairy-ring to travel back to their respective court.

Celebrating Samhain DURATION: 25-30 OCTOBER

SUMMARY Everything in the drabwurld stops for Samhain, and this year it will pass from the 25th to the 30th, each new day simply an extension of a misted, starry night, devoid of sun or moon! All feuds are forgotten over Samhain in favor of avoiding the Black Shuck instead, whose shall prowl the drabwurld in search of spirits who have escaped him. His power is so immense that to make his hunting easier, he has altered the manner of the world for these nights; a single step might unwittingly take one out of their room in a castle to a remote forest, from one coast to another... anywhere in the drabwurld. It is custom that all wear masks and behave differently so that they are not made his targets, and all folk, from the loftiest kings to the lowest servants, engage in revelry. All crimes committed in this time are pardoned. Many NPCs (including the monarchs!) will be engaged in this event, and Black Shuck himself will walk among the revelers! At the end of this festival, characters wind up wherever on the map they desire to be.

MONTHLY OVERVIEW

03rd OCTOBER (11pm IC) • EVENT START. Both courts issue royal proclamations on the network each calling for "Champions". The instructions for their respective missions will be detailed. (There will be a NPC announcement!) All Champions have an hour to make ready.
03rd OCTOBER (midnight IC) • A fairy or imp will get the attention of all shardbearers who have said the right words. Flying or running around the Champion, flowers (sweet or poisonous) will sprout in a fairy-ring. Upon completion, the person inside will have vanished, arriving alongside the rest of their team-mates.
08th OCTOBER • The Moon will have been lost by the Unseelie! Depending on player-plots, it may have been found by the Seelie.
13th OCTOBER • EVENT CLOSES. If "Hold My Foes" has not been spoken by sunset ICly on the 19th, team-members will not be transported back to their castle and will lose the ability to return to their stronghold via a fairy-ring. (It's a long, long, long walk home from the Desolate Lands!)
18th OCTOBER • Word penetrates both castles of bloody battles being fought between the gathered forces of Maupertius and an unknown force called 'the Red Hand'.
20th OCTOBER (00:01am LONDON GMT) • The boon request post goes up on the OOC community. You will be asked to state your character's request and link to proof of having participated in the event. Mods will be around to approve or deny these.
24TH OCTOBER (00:01am LONDON GMT) • Boon requests close!
25th OCTOBER • 1) THE HALLOWEEN EVENT OPENS. 2) Approved or altered, boons are ICLY received today when characters wake up.
26th OCTOBER (00:01am LONDON GMT) • ACTIVITY CHECK.
30th OCTOBER (00:01am LONDON GMT) • ACTIVITY CHECK ENDS.
01st NOVEMBER (00:01am LONDON GMT) NEW CALENDAR OF EVENTS.

The next Calendar of Events post will go up to cover all of November, with the next Test Drive Meme up around a week before reserves open. Can Kaldur scry for the moon given the boon he was given first month?

Which was given as a means to extend his pre-existing powers

Kaldur can scry to see it, but even Seelie boons are underpowered! His scrying may be ultra-brief or vague.

Would magical items that the Seelie have also be powered down? (ex. John's ring)

If a character were to try and chat with the moon, would they get any response? (my characters are weird)

Would the Outsider be able to sense the moon like he can magical objects, or not because... it's the moon? l-lol

EDIT: Also, for Ariadne! She can teleport to places she's already been during the full and new moons but is Unseelie -- how would the moon's absence alter this ability?

okay so i know in my PM i said that korra won't use the avashard state until the pegasus quest, but if she tried using it during the moon event, would she be able to track/figure out where the moon is once it starts fleeing its captors?

or could she talk to it in the avashard state? or any other spirits? mo_om

Korra could use this state to track the spirit and approximate its location. In its presence, she would be able to converse with it!

Does the restriction on not being able to come back until the quest is over prevent teleporters from bouncing hither and yon anyway?

Seelie teleporters would be at half-power, and may not wind up where they wanted to go! Unseelie teleporters, on the other hand, can do whatever they please.

Does the powering down affect non-Seelie items? Namely, would Bilbo's magic ring be affected at all or will it still have the same abilities?

SO since Ben saw a vision of a dog behind him as well as the moon disappearing, is it possible that the dog in his vision was the Black Shuck, and would he possibly come across him? If that happened, would he die? Since Ben is a Creature of Light, if he touched the Black Shuck, would it paralyze/disable the beast for a moment/burn him/do nothing?

If he so happens to end up in a graveyard because of the Shuck's powers, would his vision prove to be true (dead bodies be errywhere) or was it exaggerated?

EDIT: since Ben can sense energies, would he be able to feel which direction the moon is headed in/where it is, or would his powers just kind of give him a wide birth of where it could be?

Hello! I realized this was a thing and now I have to ask it because it's sort of an intense one. Canonly Kanata's powers are successor level --> center nova potential as of the end of the series. So for the event it's very reasonable for her to reach Center Nova. Unfortunately, the wikia doesn't tell us exactly what a Center Nova is but they're basically a musical godddess.

Beyond being able to suddenly transport where they want to be/open a portal through time and space they're able to completely make someone stand down and reach into their hearts (demonstrated here by Chieri at about 2:40 and again at about 2:20). None of it's powers that Kanata hasn't already shown, it's merely just amplified to more or less goddess levels.

But because it's basically godlike I wanted to ask if it was okay! I know to use it I'd definitely have to ask players/put descriptors of what exactly happens and explain things properly. It's kind of a thing, though.

Another part of this is something that isn't quite fully explained in canon. The girls are able to resonate with the people around them, it's the reason they're able to make them stand down. Chieri is a special case of she was a Center Nova before she was a successor. Kanata is a little more complicated/complex in this in that she's supposed to be a successor but doesn't know it. So if she does reach something like this, when she connects hearts with people outside of it they would likely feel her soul isn't completely her own. Like what happens to Acchan here as while she doesn't become the same Center Nova as Chieri she is a close second showing the same glowing/etc.

Basically, the last part is more of a character/personal plot in that if it's okay her soul would show her as 'Takahashi Minami' to others in the same way as Acchan's. But because most people don't know it/wouldn't know the name it wouldn't make as much of an impact to them, but she'd probably do the Acchan thing of appearing as the original Takamina then anything else. IF THAT MAKES SENSE.

I understand if the second part isn't a possible thing, but it's a logical maneuver into Center Nova power with her current issues from canon. It just might be potentially messy with any future Takaminas, although I've never actually seen one. The Center Nova thing is just the next step in her power and I think could be really interesting to play with and find a way to work with the event '^'/

hi i have another power question!!

erik in the movies has his powers nerfed a little compared to erik in the comics and i was wondering, with the doubled power, if he'd be able to tickle a little at the comicverse version of his powers (which are things his movieverse side could access, save that he hasn't had the same level of time/experience to do it)

would he be able to, for example, bloodbend a tiiiny little bit if he concentrated hard enough? i dont think it'd be enough to seriously harm/kill/maim anyone, but maybe enough to manipulate their body a bit?
