MAY Calendar of Events
Hey, fairybros! For the May event we'll be mixing things up for everyone who wants to visit the other castle in a fairy version of Capture The Flag! Nothing is ever easy when you're in a war, however, and everyone will have to work around the furious wildcard of ...
The Attack of Wild Edric GENRE: ACTION/STRATEGY/MAGIC | DURATION: 07-19 MAY |

SUMMARY Wild Edric was once a man with a beautiful elf-wife, but the day she disappeared his grief transformed him into a monstrous bear. Now, chained and tormented in the dungeons of Caer Scima for years on end, he has grown over twenty-feet tall and is said to eat people whole.
The Unseelie High-Queen has decided to take advantage of the lowered defenses of Caer Glaem and will be assembling three teams to transport into Seelie territory on the morning of May 07th: the Sun, Stars and Moon. These are, of course, codenames for each group! Team Sun will arrive with Wild Edric in their midst, charged with directing the huge bear at Caer Glaem in skirmishes to draw out the Seelie heroes onto the meadows surrounding the castle. Team Stars will provide support and healing capabilities away from the action in the Greenwood, trespassers with the important task of providing shelter for their forces. Team Moon has the most important job; to infiltrate the ruins of Caer Glaem, search for and recover a Jabberwock Tooth. As large as a 6ft human male, this will be brimming with poison that causes flesh to rot when in close proximity (1 metre to strip flesh, 2 to cause intense burns, 3 to scald) and Team Moon will need to call for a fairy-ring from the imps, who will create a larger fairy-ring to transport it, the moment they arrive. It should not be handled without care!
Meanwhile, back in Caer Glaem, the Seelie High-Queen will issue her own forces into Caer Scima for her heroes to reclaim an ancient sword, The Dara. Two groups will be sent via fairy-ring to the outskirts of Caer Scima while a third will be charged with protecting Caer Glaem from attacks: the Greys, Greens and Golds. Team Grey will arrive in the forest of La Llorona and must infiltrate Caer Scima to find The Dara, Team Green will provide support in the surrounding Unseelie forest, and Team Gold will hold off the attacks of Unseelie on the castle walls of Caer Glaem.

Teams will be transported into the territories around each stronghold on the morning of May 07th no matter where they are. Each individual on a team will be given the chance to drop out of their quest by simply saying "Hold My Foes", whereupon a fairy-ring will sprout around their feet and transport them back into their castle or within a twenty-mile radius of it, depending on where they want to arrive back (they will be told this in the monarch announcement). The catch is that no one who returns before their quest is over, regardless of participation and a win/fail recovering the items, will qualify for a May boon. So stick it out! Armour, weapons and horses (if you want them) are available to all team members although they will only have an hour to make ready ... because the monarchs won't be asking for their help this time, they'll be demanding it!
EXTRA INFO | QUICKFIRE ANSWERS
• The Jabberwock Tooth may be located in the deepest pit of the Ruins under Caer Glaem, lending a foul stench to the air, forgotten to time.
• The Dara will be protected in the dungeons of Caer Scima.
• Wild Edric may be slain or let loose on the Greenwood at the end of this event, depending on player choice and planning! He will be controlled/NPC'd by the decisions of those in Team Sun. We strongly recommend once Team Sun has decided what to ultimately do with Wild Edric, they post an OOC note to let everyone else know! He can be fought by weapons or magic; Wild Edric is simply enormous, with incredible durability and strength, but essentially just a bear. His fairytale can be found in the library of both courts, regarding his history.
• Although this event loosely mirrors Capture The Flag, it is not a race! Both prizes may be captured, or one, or none! It all depends on player plotting.
• Morla will NOT be informing people about the corrosive effects of the Tooth (live and learn!).
• If the fighting gets intense, please remember that only PCs, not NPCs, will give up Shards if slain.
• Everyone who participates to the end of the event will get a boon, even if they fail to retrieve their items. Should they fail, however, their boons will be ... stranger than usual, and altered. How? Wait and see.
• The broadcast by the monarchs will be closed to comments. That means that once they have given their commands, they will not be up for a Q&A. Neither is there a royal audience this month (the next one is in June!).
• Solais only discovered Morla's plans at the eleventh hour, so to speak, so the Seelie teams in Unseelie territory will not have anything en par with Wild Edric to flaunt. Theirs will need to be a much stealthier mission to survive! (On an OOC note, Wild Edric is an Unseelie plot device to even out the strength between the factions, given how large the Seelie court currently is.)
• Want to come home through your fairy-ring with a POW? Go for it! Two people can use a fairy-ring to travel in mixed factions. It isn't a good idea to arrive directly in your own court unless you want the guards to put your tag-along in the dungeons, however.
• Fairy-rings can transport characters within a twenty-mile radius of their castle if not directly home. Just think about where you want to go!
• Everyone may stay in contact with their lockets throughout the event.
• No one on a team has to participate. If your character wants to pretend to go along with it, arrive with their fellows and do their own thing, neglecting to come back on the 19th, they may do so.
What other dangers will your character face?
• TEAM SUN Daily attacks on the Seelie Court, reining in and directing Wild Edric if they can, providing distractions.
• TEAM STARS Golems, unicorns, any of the wild beasties to be found in the wilderness of the Greenwood while they maintain a temporary retreat for their wounded.
• TEAM MOON Seelie Shard-holders posted around the castle, once they infiltrate. The Jabberwock Tooth will rot the flesh of any who get too close, a danger which must be learned by trial and error and will not be stipulated by High-Queen Morla.
• TEAM GREY Orcs, ogres, trolls, every nasty creature that lives in Caer Scima and the remaining Shard-holders there besides! The Dara will be protected by a thirty-foot old cave-troll (Bert!) who must be taken down before the sword can be recovered.
• TEAM GREEN Clegs, orcs, water-horses, a forest eager to strangle them in their sleep while they maintain a safe(ish) outpost for Team Grey to retreat to with any wounded.
• TEAM GOLD Wild Edric, Team Sun and Team Moon (if/when they notice the trespassers!).
Given this event is primarily focused on fostering CR and strengthening ties within each faction, there will be a time-limit of 8 DAYS at the least until the Tooth and Dara may be located. What does this mean? Players are encouraged to plot together in their teams on how to go about achieving these goals! Sign ups for Wild Edric will close May 04th 00:01am London GMT, giving OOC planning a clear 3 day gap to develop before the event starts.
MONTHLY OVERVIEW
The next Calendar of Events post will go up toward the end of May to cover all of June, with the next Test Drive Meme up around a week before reserves open. Weather will be bursts of sunshine, blue skies and lots of mist in the mornings. Nights will be cool instead of cold. Please sign up for the Wild Edric event below, underneath the respective header, and feel free to use this as a plotting post. Remember, there are no limits on the size of a team but please try to keep them even. Finally, if you have any queries about the event, please direct them to the Questions thread and we'll get back to you ASAP, and feel free to use this post to plot together. Thank you!01ST MAY Beltane! A celebration of light and fertility to oppose Samhain, the first day of summer, one of the Eight Festivals. For one day only, Caer Glaem will be strewn with green and white ribbons and a small feast will be held with music. At Caer Scima, where Samhain is a far more important celebration, there will be finer food and drink than usual (think swans instead of chicken!) but no feast and no decorations.
07th MAY (5am IC) • EVENT START. With Morla's plans now known to Solais, both High-Queens issue royal proclamations on the network each listing three teams of "Champions". The instructions for their respective missions will be detailed. (There will be a NPC announcement!) All Champions have an hour to make ready.
07th MAY (6am IC) • A fairy or imp will get the attention of each team member, wherever they are, and tell them they are about to be magicked away. Flying or running around the Champion, flowers (sweet or poisonous) will sprout in a fairy-ring. Upon completion, the person inside will have vanished, arriving alongside the rest of their team-mates.
14th MAY • Depending on player-plots, the Dara and Tooth could possibly be located from today.
19th MAY • EVENT CLOSES. If "Hold My Foes" has not been spoken by sunset ICly on the 19th, team-members will not be transported back to their castle and will lose the ability to return to their stronghold via a fairy-ring. (It's a long, long, long walk home!)
20th MAY (00:01am LONDON GMT) • 1) RESERVES OPEN. 2) The boon request post goes up on the OOC community. You will be asked to state your character's request and link to proof of having participated in the event. Mods will be around to approve or deny these.23rd24TH APR (00:01am LONDON GMT) • Boon requests close!
24th MAY (00:01am LONDON GMT) • APPS OPEN.

2. Is there anything characters can do to qualify for boons if they want to help, but are unwilling/unable to fight?
no subject
and it's late here. Would you mind clarifying what you mean by similar options?)2) Characters who don't want to fight but who would wish to help (if they had been asked, which they won't - everyone listed ICly will not be given a choice when it comes to being sent, although they may return immediately if they wish) would be best placed OOCly in the retreat/healing teams, as only those in teams this time will qualify for boons.

(i'm happy with being sent out against their will. i ask only because i play a character who would opt out from the safety of the castle but once she's transported she might not necessarily fall back on the 'hold my foes' escape route.)

Regarding distance, it should be a sensible handful of miles. It wouldn't be very clever to have their retreat too close to the hotspot where the other team could be discovered.
